On Saturday, January 27 at 8:00 pm, the play by José Sanchis Sinisterra Los Figurantes premiered at the Teatro del Bosque (Móstoles). An exercise in metatheater where the extras take power. Los Figurantes is one of José Sanchis Sinisterra’s masterpieces, premiered in Valencia in February 1989 and two years later at the Sala Olimpia in Madrid.
According to Sanchis himself, the germ of this work goes back to the time when he was working with José Luis Gómez in the dramaturgy of “La vida es sueño” for the Teatro Español, a work that gave him an excellent opportunity to meditate on the fate of those figures condemned to “hold the spear”.
The sound space was emerging little by little from a proposal made to me by Delfín Estévez, assistant director of the play, to create some sound effects to which I proposed to compose and produce all the musical parts of the play. The first was a piece to welcome the audience, which was to be played before the play began, with an epic character that contrasted with what was to follow. In addition to fanfares and other sound effects, a choreographed piece would follow in which each of the 19 actors would have his or her characteristic leitmotif. The work ends with an aria for soprano (Laura Fernández Alcalde) and orchestra with which the work closes to the applause of the audience.
